Lessons Learned from ePortfolio Reviews
In creating my ePortfolio, I have spent a decent amount of time researching the ePortfolio itself and reviewing several examples of the same. My time reviewing was well-spent, as I learned many lessons among the various examples I observed.
1. ePortfolios take various forms - some to house information, some to show off one's educational successes, etc.
2. A solid ePortfolio - one where its creator spent a significant amount of time creating - will take on the personality of its creator. There are thousands of aesthetic choices, styles, and layouts that are as diverse as their owners.
3. The best ePortfolios require hard work to create, because introspection is key to creating a meaningful and authentic viewing experience.
4. A key component to an ePortfolio is a blog, which should be a sounding board to comment on educational and/or technological trends. It should be a place to speak one's mind, but should be relatively focused on education or acadmia.
5. An ePortfolio should be a combination between personal and professional. If too personal, an ePortfolio is simply another form of social media. If too professional, an ePortfolio is cold and little more than a commercial.
